On Tilt on CoinPoker

In the last days, I have experienced a massive downswing on CoinPoker. In fact, I was not yet profitable there but maybe the sample size is a bit small. However, I had played tournaments with buy-ins from anything between 1.10 and 25$, and not a single time did I finish in the money (ITM).

I am pretty sure that I was on tilt in some cases but there were unusal amounts of suck-outs and bad beats that definitely made it worse. I even started to research, whether CoinPoker is rigged or anything like that but in the end, it was most likely a combination of massive tilt and variance.

Currently, I am also reading Jared Tendler´s and Barry Carter´s “The Mental Game of Poker: Proven Strategies for Improving Tilt Control, Confidence, Motivation, Coping with Variance, and More” in the hope that I will be able to control my tilt situations better, moving forward.

Finally, after about 25 tournaments without any cash prize, I ended ITM again

I realized that in some situations, I got really angry with hands like AA, playing against an obvious maniac, betting on flop and turn well against villain, only to go all in on the turn with my opponent holding AK, board is like 328K, and OF COURSE, the opponent hits the two-outer, and I lose.

In this situation, I did not only burst on the bubble but I also lost the opportunity to make a big cash, since it was a tournament that could have made up for many losses by winning a couple hundred dollars. But I was not supposed to win this hand, this tournament, and many other tournaments after that.

Actually, I am not supposed to win any hand at all, at least in theory, you could lose every single hand on a given day. It is statistically very improbable but the probability is not 0. Anyways, I have played 56 tournaments on CoinPoker now which is not a great sample size but I was able to amass a loss of more than 400$ which is the equivalent of roughly 40 buy-ins at ABI a bit below 10$.

Challenge accepted! i will try my best to play better in the next 44 tournaments but will most likely not be able to “win everything back”. This is, by the way, very dangerous: wanting to win everything back as soon as possible is the best way to go on tilt or make things far worse.

I have to trust the process, and if I continue making better decisions and learn every day, the probability is there that one day, I will be profitable also on CoinPoker. I will keep you posted!

[Update from 24 April 2026]

Finally, I was able to also win a 3.30er Hyper Tournament on CoinPoker, after making a deal with a very well playing 2nd player in the heads-up. Patience is key, and I have the feeling that the players on CoinPoker play much better on average than on ACR Poker but I am slowly getting the hang of it.

My very first trophy on CoinPoker after 62 (!) tournaments – let´s hope that the next one will arrive sooner!

I am still 300$ down on CoinPoker which is much better than 400$ compared to yesterday, and I will work hard to “break even” as soon as possible but I am not going to force it. I know that it is a process, and it will take however long it takes. I was lucky today, since I really won all important flips but at the same time, I was almost always ahead and avoided rather marginal decisions.

I am very happy about this result since it gives me back the confidence that I needed. I think that my next events will be much better again in the sense that I will be more focused and intentional.

  1. […] Anyways, I have completed my first 100 events on CoinPoker and experienced a massive downswing as I have written before. I don´t want to hide it: I am a losing player there (as of now) but I do want to change […]
