Today, I was able to reach top 20 Mythic Ranking on Magic Arena. Some time ago, I would have not thought that this was possible because I never considered myself being a good Magic player. However, reaching Day 2 at the last Arena Open and now being amongst the top players according the Mythic ranking makes me think that I am not a total noob anymore:P
How did I get here?
Well, as I had mentioned in one of my Youtube videos before, I started to play Magic the Gathering back in 1998. So even though I was never a good player (at least by pro standards), I am pretty familiar with basics mechanics, game concepts and some strategic approaches to MtG.

But I was definitely lacking practice and never had a testing group. Now, that I can learn from other good players and practice a lot more via Magic Arena, I can definitely also learn more and improve as a player.
The following streamers were particularly helpful in my recent journey:
- Nummy
- Paul Cheon
- Just Lola
- Mr. Fister Roboto
- Nicolai Bolas.
Apart from watching their Youtube Channels, I also started to listen to Lords of Limited and subscribed to their Discord. Here are some of tips and thoughts I wanna share to become a better player:
- try to anticipate what card the opponent might have to beat you
- play to your outs and know what you can draw
- learn from better players and try to understand their thought process
- stay cool, even when you are screwed or flooded
- review your games and think about what you could have done better.
Find out in this video, if I was able to further improve my ranking:
